Here is a list of U.S. cardinals eligible to participate in the upcoming papal conclave on May 7. These cardinals, all under the age of 80, are set to enter the historic event to elect a new pope.
Participating cardinals include Raymond L. Burke, the retired prefect of the Apostolic Signature, and Blase J. Cupich from Chicago. Retired Archbishop of Galveston-Houston, Daniel N. DiNardo, and Timothy M. Dolan from New York will also take part.
Kevin J. Farrell, who serves as the prefect of the Dicastery for Laity, the Family and Life, under the leadership of Pope Francis, is among the attendees. Another retiree, Cardinal Wilton D. Gregory, the former archbishop of Washington, will be in attendance as well.
Cardinal James M. Harvey, an archpriest at Rome’s Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, will join the other cardinals. Robert W. McElroy, currently serving as the archbishop of Washington, and Robert F. Prevost, the prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, will also participate.
Finally, the list includes Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin from Newark, New Jersey, who rounds out the group participating in the conclave.
The conclave marks a significant moment in the Catholic Church as these cardinals will engage in the process to select the future pope.
