Don's passion for music was evident in every note he played, and he took great joy in sharing his talent with others. His memory is honored through the music he created, the lives he influenced, and his legacy of quick wit and compassion.
Beginning his musical journey at CCM after high school graduation, Don married his high school sweetheart, Donna Brown, in 1962. Their daughter, Donna Lynn, was born in 1964, prompting Don to pause his education temporarily. His commitment to supporting his family led him to a career at Interstate Brands, where he worked for over 20 years while also pursuing his musical talents through performances. Despite facing disability in 1994, Don returned to school, earning a Bachelor of Music degree from Northern Kentucky University and a Master's degree from the University of Kentucky.
During his doctoral studies at UK, Don showcased his musical prowess with performances and recordings with the university's jazz ensembles. He was recognized as an outstanding soloist at the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival and had the privilege of performing at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland with the UK Jazz Band.
A respected musician, Don performed alongside notable artists such as Manhattan Transfer and Andy Williams, showcasing his talent around the world. His legacy includes performances with various bands and orchestras, teaching opportunities at NKU, and service as a musical director for prominent events and organizations.
Visitation for Don will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Linnemann Funeral Homes in Erlanger, Kentucky, with a funeral service following. He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Don's contributions to the world of music and his impact as a mentor will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
