The much-utilized Hollywood formula of reinvigorating a character with a military background is again on display in "A Working Man," available on Amazon MGM. The film follows actor Jason Statham in the role of Levon Cade, who finds himself up against Russian sex traffickers.
In the film, Levon Cade, a construction foreman in Chicago, is drawn out of his civilian life to rescue Jenny, the daughter of his employers, Joe and Carla Garcia, portrayed by Michael Peña and Noemí Gonzalez. The plot escalates when Jenny, played by Arianna Rivas, is kidnapped, prompting Levon to leverage his Royal Marine combat skills.
Director David Ayer collaborates on the script with Sylvester Stallone, building on Chuck Dixon's 2014 novel, "Levon’s Trade." Despite its familiar premise, "A Working Man" is noted for featuring a character like Jenny who possesses fighting skills, though the reasoning behind this is questionably explained in the screenplay.
Adhering to the action genre's standards, the film includes bloodshed and vigilantism. In one scene, Levon executes an enemy he has already restrained, rationalizing his lethal act as justified vengeance. The film is characterized by intense violence, drug use, and explicit language, as highlighted in the OSV News classification of "O" for morally offensive content. The Motion Picture Association has rated it "R" for restricted audiences, requiring accompaniment for viewers under 17.
