The City of Erlanger has announced a scholarship opportunity for one graduating senior, offering financial support in the form of a $2,500 scholarship. This scholarship is aimed at assisting students in attending an accredited two- or four-year college or technical school. The selection will be based on the student's potential to succeed in higher education. Applicants must reside in Erlanger and submit their applications by March 7, 2025, at 4 p.m.
To be eligible, applicants must meet several criteria: they must be U.S. citizens and residents of Erlanger, graduates from an accredited high school or home school in Northern Kentucky with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Preference will be given to those planning to attend institutions within Kentucky. Additionally, applicants must be drug-free and have no convictions related to drugs, weapons, or violence.
Applicants are required to prepare a portfolio including a completed scholarship form and a 250-500 word essay on "Why I need or deserve this Scholarship." A letter of recommendation from a teacher or school administrator is also necessary. Portfolios should list community involvement activities and include recommendations for outstanding achievements in community service.
Applications can be submitted physically at the Erlanger City Building or electronically to Kim Wolking, Community Planner, at kim.wolking@cityoferlanger.com. The deadline is Friday, March 7, 2025.
The selection committee comprises representatives from Erlanger businesses who will evaluate applications based on community achievement (65%), essay quality (25%), and grade point average (10%). The committee's decision is final, and the scholarship recipient will be announced at the City Council meeting on the first Tuesday of May.
Questions regarding the application process can be directed to Kim Wolking at kim.wolking@cityoferlanger.com.
