The University of Notre Dame football team faced disappointment after a 34-23 loss to Ohio State University in the College Football Playoff national championship on January 20 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Coach Marcus Freeman, alongside seniors Riley Leonard and Jack Kiser, addressed the media following the game.

"Obviously tough moment, tough outcome," said Freeman. "There's reasons why we didn't get the outcome we wanted. Credit to Ohio State and their ability to execute on both sides of the ball."

Notre Dame, aiming for its 12th national title and first since 1988, began with a strong start. Riley Leonard completed an 18-play drive by scoring from one yard out, giving Notre Dame a lead early in the game. Upon reaching the end zone, Leonard pointed to his wristband featuring Matthew 23:12 and later shared his gratitude towards Jesus Christ for the opportunity to play.

"Before I answer your question, I want to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for giving me the opportunity to play in this game," Leonard stated at the press conference.

Leonard's sentiments were echoed by Ohio State's quarterback Will Howard who also praised God after their victory. "First and foremost, I've got to give the glory and praise to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ," Howard expressed during an on-field interview.

Despite contributing significantly with two touchdown passes during the game, Leonard felt he had let his teammates down but appreciated his time at Notre Dame since transferring from Duke University.

"It's very easy to be a successful quarterback when your coaches are setting you up for success," Leonard said reflecting on his brief tenure with Notre Dame.

Kiser reflected similarly on his six-year journey with Notre Dame highlighting relationships built along the way. "When you look at the six years I've been here...what I remember is the people," he remarked.

Freeman praised his team for their efforts throughout the season stating they chose to trust each other and put collective goals ahead of individual aspirations. "I'm just proud of them...it's just an honor to be on this journey with them," Freeman concluded.
